Ceremony to launch the national tour of "The 42nd Street"
and the beneficiary banquet of the China Soong Ching Ling
Foundation held in Beijing
On the night of August 6, 2007, "Let The Cities Dance" ?the
ceremony to launch the national tour of
42nd Street and
the beneficiary banquet of the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation
are held in the residence of Madame Soong Ching Ling in Beijing. As
the first show of the China performance season by the Nederlander
New Century International Theatre Management Company Ltd., the
Broadway musical
42nd Street will tour Shanghai, Hangzhou,
Nanjing, Ningbo, Hefei, Wuhan, and Beijing starting in September.
The Oriental Broadway抯 performance season has entered a strategic
alliance with the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation: Part of the
ticket income will go to the Soong Ching Ling Music Fund.

42nd Street won the prestigious Tony
Award twice in 1981 and 2001. The show has been produced for
Nederlander New Century by Troika Entertainment and Broadway Asia
Entertainment, two of the most prolific producers of musicals in
China. The show has the further distinction of being directed by
Mark Bramble who is one of the authors of the show. Mark also
directed the Tony Award winning revival of 42nd Street on Broadway.
This production features magnificent dance scenes, extravagant
stage settings and boasts thousands of elegant costumes. It has
become one of the most memorable shows in the American theatrical
history. The story revolves around the creation of a musical. The
protagonist is Peggy Sawyer, a young chorus girl who works her way
up to become a Broadway star. According to Madame Chen, Chairwoman
for Nederlander New Century: "The message of 42nd Street is that
through diligence and persistence people can turn their dreams into
reality, which closely resonates with our Chinese classic
culture."
The press conference not only highlights the coming of 42nd Street
to China, but more importantly, China earns significant knowledge
and skills about theater management. "We not only want Chinese
people to enjoy world class entertainment, but we also want to
share our years of successful management experience" ?says Bob
Nederlander, Jr. Vice Chair of Nederlander New Century.
Comprehensive marketing strategy; membership recruit and
management, nationwide ticketing system are just some of the new
approaches that Nederlander New Century is bringing to China.
The event is graced by Chinese leaders, the US Ambassador to China,
dignitaries and media. 42nd Street will be touring across seven
cities in China, including Shanghai (Sept. 5-22); Hangzhou (Sept.
26 to October 1); Nanjing (October 6-13); Ningbo (October 17-23);
Hefei (October 27-30); Wuhan (November 3-8) and Beijing (November
