NEDERLANDER CHINA

Nederlander's enthusiasm for China began over 30 years ago when the Chinese ping-pong team visited the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. After their visit, Robert Nederlander Sr., who was a Regent of the University of Michigan, requested an opportunity to visit China. The request was granted and as a result he chaired one of the first delegations of scholars and academics to visit China at that time, to meet senior government representatives and leading educators. The trip was a great success and many new friendships were formed. Nederlander is very proud of the small role it has played in helping to open channels for communication between the United States and China helping to foster better relations. Memories of Robert Nederlander Sr.'s historic mission was a source of inspiration when Robert Nederlander Jr. traveled to China for the first time in 2001. Mr. Nederlander's goal was to explore the viability of a plan for Nederlander Worldwide to be a catalyst for presenting Broadway tours throughout China. To accomplish this goal, Nederlander established an important collaboration with Madame Chen Jixin, founder of the Beijing Time New Century Entertainment Company, one of the first private companies in China to participate in live entertainment presentations.

After four years of research and business development, Ms. Chen and Nederlander formalized our partnership through a joint venture that will be known to consumers as the "Broadway China Network." This joint venture was the first to be approved by the Ministry of Culture to operate under the Revised Regulations on the Administration of Commercial Performing Arts, opening the market to foreign investment.

In the fall of 2007, The Nederlander New Century Broadway China Network will present its first Broadway show in China - 42nd Street.
